We all love a good celebrity selfie, right? So when our lovely client EE asked us to think of a fun way to give EE customers first-row access to the show we thought “why not build something that gives movie fans the chance to get their very own selfie from the red carpet?”.
To do it we made Roboselfie, a robot built to snap hundreds of personalised selfies at superfast speeds. Twitter users were asked to tweet selfies hashtagged EEBAFTAselfie to EE. On the day of the show, those who’d sent in a selfie got a tweet back with their face overlayed next to a BAFTA celeb.
How we actually did it? Well …. before stars walked the EE BAFTA red carpet and stopped and posed with the Roboselfie, facial detection software moderated, positioned and resized the faces in the pics tweeted by fans. The Roboselfie had built-in time codes and custom software to synchronise its camera to its display, to simultaneously project fans’ images next to celebs and capture a new, unique selfie every 200 milliseconds. Roboselfie intelligently paired the new images, complete with celeb cameos, to the @handle of the person who submitted the original selfie and included a personalised message. Pretty cool, eh?
We could not have done this without M&C Saatchi so lots of thanks go to them. Also, our Roboselfie was pretty “smooth” because its look was designed by Jany Tamime (BAFTA award-winning costume designer of films like Gravity, Skyfall, Harry Potter franchise). Watch the story of the making here.
